Enough is Enough

I’m so sick and tired of not getting the respect I deserve as an artiste d’scrapbook! First of all, do people know how much creativity goes into creating a scrap page? It just peels my adhesives when someone will look at a scrap page that I’ve worked SO hard on, and then say, very nonchalantly, “Oh, that’s nice. People still scrapbook?” Of course we scrapbook! And we do it online now, you paperdoodle! It’s only THE biggest craft of our time! And the way they brush it off, so disinterested, it makes me just want to cut them into a square, make a nice frame, and glue them on a page! And title it “Goober”.

For the record: Scrapbooking is an artform! We work so hard to make these wonderfully creative pages that reflect a powerful memory in our lives. And all we need is a little admiration for the time and energy we put in to this memory. And if that’s too much to ask, then I say this: BEWARE my scissors, I just had them SHARPENED!

Ouch!

I just skinned my knee today tripping over my CraftCrate. I don’t know how I didn’t see it, but it made me think of a wonderful scrap page filled with “ouch” moments in my life. There’s the skinned knee of today…I’ll probably put that at the top because it was my inspiration “ouch”. And then there’s the time I accidentally mistook the spray adhesive for my Aquanet hairspray. After trying to run my brush through my hair…Ouch! And my biggest ouch, to date, was when I was attacked, by the highly neurotic Marcile, in our Wednesday Night: Scrap Delight get together. She thought that I was rude because I wouldn’t eat her stupid brownies. Helloooo! I was doing the Atkins Diet! But there was no convincing her and she got so bent out of shape, (she HAD to have had other drama going on in her life…maybe she was really insecure about her talent at making brownies…I don’t know), but she jumped me and nearly killed me with paper cuts. Thank goodness Gloria never leaves home without her Z-force stun gun. Before that wacko could saw me down to the bone with her orange-brown construction paper (ugh, by the way), Gloria zapped her with 100,000 volts. Bottom line: ouch!

It’s just so wonderful how even the painful moments in our lives can fill a colorful page. Even if it does take some tears to do it.

Incidentally, I did end up trying on of Marcile’s brownies. I just felt so bad that the rest of the night she spoke with a slur and couldn’t cut a straight line.

Scrap City

I just had the most amazing dream last night!  I dreamed that I lived in Scrap City, this beautiful town where everything was scrapbooky!  The trees bloomed colored paper, the sidewalks were paved with stamppads, and all the people were made of photograph paper.  All you had to do was cut them up and you could place them on the page!  (side note- it doesn’t hurt them to cut them up…that’s what they were there for, to create a memory with you, and then allow you to use them in a scrap page!)  They even continue living ON YOUR PAGE!  The idea of it was so neat!  And if you needed a border or a frame, you only needed to pluck them from the sky, because floating all around were borders, frames, die cuts, and the most beautiful ribbons you could ever have the luck to come across.

But oddly enough, the dream turned into a nightmare when, in a turn for the worst, I couldn’t come up with an inspiration for a page!  I walked aimlessly through the streets grabbing ribbons and saying to myself over and over, “this would go great in a scrap page.”, or “I’ve got to find a use for this!”  But I couldn’t come up with a theme!

I woke up in a cold sweat, screaming at the top of my lungs.  Steven was really worried about me.  He thought my appendix had burst or that I left my scissors in the bed again (I scrap in bed sometimes).  But it was just a fantasy turned nightmare.  Luckily, after my English Breakfast tea that morning, I came up with a great inspiration:  “Tea Time!”  And so I scrap!

I’m so upset with myself

I just took a scrapbooking quiz, and I scored a 46.7%!!  I thought I knew about scrapbooking, and now I come to find out that I’m nothing but a screwbie!  My confidence has officially been diced to pieces.  I am partially blaming my inner scrapper for all of this, because when I took the test, I quieted my mind, allowed him to speak to me, and he was giving me so many wrong answers!

I wonder if you can replace your inner scrapper?  Is that possible?  Can I fire him?  But then who will I turn to for my scrapspirations?  What if a new inner scrapper doesn’t emerge?  I’m facing the biggest scrap-dilemna of my life!!!!

My head hurts.

Potato salad scrap

The other day, I was doing a lovely scrap about the potato salad that we had at Marsha’s picnic. (Normally I would have scrapped about something more exciting, but there’s not much you can do when the potato salad is the only thing worth a scrap).

I’m really concerned that Marsha will continue to throw these horrific picnic parties (no scrapping at these picnics, by the way…..why I even bother, I have NO idea!). She sets them up in her backyard…which is all concrete. They have old pieces of rebar sticking up from the concrete that the scrubby’s use to play horseshoes. Have you ever listened to a game of horseshoes on concrete? CLANG, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG! Ugh!

And then they serve this AMAZING potato salad, among a variety of not so great, vegetarian experiments. I’m fine with vegetarian burgers, occassionally, but her vegetarian Filet Mignon tasted like a rubber doggie toy!

The afternoon always ends with Marsha reading a poem from some random author. I might not mind it so much if she did her poetry reading at the beginning, but by the end of the afternoon, after my ears are ringing from the horseshoe games, and my stomach is deciding whether or not to implode on itself, the last thing I want to do is sit quietly while she reads a 5 minute poem about the glory of a sunset.

Well, this was supposed to be all about my potato salad scrap, but obviously I had some stuff to get off my chest. I think I’m just gonna scrap my scrap and start over.

Erika Martin’s SCRAPTASTIC KEEPSAKES

Well if you are looking for that perfect scraptastic keepsake album, look no further! These are just adorable, and they are hand made…each one is a one-of-a-kind!

Follow this link here (I’m having my scrubby set this link thingy up for me right now because you simply MUST see these albums, and I HATE cutting and pasting these darn URLies) THIS SHOULD BE THE LINK TO ERIKA’S KEEPSAKE ALBUMS!

PS- I’m in the middle of a wonderful scrap about the different seasonings of chicken! I’m going to try and actually use seasoning on the page……we’ll see how that goes!

I NEED HELP!!!!

I need a title for my theme page.  And my inner scrapper is giving me the silent treatment! If ANYBODY out there has a creative title, please let me know.  Here’s my scrap:

My niece, Bernice, just turned 5.  We all had a fantastic time at her birthday party, which was themed “Bumblebee’s”.  (You’d think I’d hit a homerun with this one, seeing as my favorite color is yellow).  My scrubby got tons of great pictures, per my scrap sensitive instructions….I like to think “scrap” while framing up pictures, and sometimes Steven needs guidance.  Well, he got some good ones, and the picture I’m using is this scrapperrific picture of Bernice grabbing a piece of Bumblebee shaped cake, right from the thorax.  In the background you can see me standing next to Bernice’s mother, Claurice, and we are smiling at Bernice.

I framed the picture over a beautiful cutout of a bumblebee, and I’ve placed sunflower stickers around the page.  Under the picture is a caption reading:  Bernice has been dreaming of age five ever since she turned four.  And it’s finally here.  Our little beekeepers first speech at age five: “Mom, when can I turn six?!”

Now all I need is a title over the top!  PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

My website is up!

Well, the chronicling of my journey to Scrapapalooza has finally hit the web! I couldn’t me more excited! I’ve already made 5 pages about it, capturing each emotion that I’ve had during this process. They are, in no particular order: excitement (obviously, cuz I just mentioned how excited I am), joy, scraphappy (sort of a delirious state one gets, not unlike spending an afternoon inhaling spray adhesive), tummy bubbles (or butterflies), and sadness (that the experience is over, and I miss it).

The site is www.mockutv.com.

Scrapapalooza was intense. I learned alot about myself. Mostly of which, I learned that I’m “all scrap”…100% scrap! You can take the adhesive away, but I’d still find a way to stick a memory!

Oh, and before I go, I just wanted add a side note to say that my new favorite theme color is orangish-yellow. I’m sort of experimenting outside of my “yellow” box, but I’m taking baby steps. We’ll see how it goes. I already have a sunset idea in mind, and we have some of the best sunsets out here, but my scrubby Steven seems to have misplaced the camera. Go figure. Scrubbies!
